Publishing, rollback and taking a site offline
Updated
How your changes go live
With the connector plugin installed, just work in WordPress® as usual. When you publish, update or delete a post or page, or change menus, widgets, the theme, plugins or key settings, WordPress tells us and we start a build. When it finishes, the live site switches to it all at once. This usually takes a minute or two.
Several changes in a row are fine: we finish the current build, then run one more with everything that changed.
You can also start a build any time:
- Build now on the site page in the dashboard.
- Rebuild now in WordPress, under Settings → WranglePress, or Rebuild static site in the admin bar.
If a build fails
The live site stays on the last good build. We email the site's owners and admins with the reason (at most once every 6 hours per site), and the build's page lists what went wrong. See Troubleshooting.
Roll back
Every good build is kept. In the Builds list, click Roll back to this next to the one you want. Visitors get it immediately.
The next publish in WordPress builds a new copy, which replaces the rollback. If you rolled back because of a bad change, fix it in WordPress first.
Builds made for a different domain (before you changed the domain) can't be published.
Take a site offline
Take offline (in card 3) stops serving the copy on your domain. Use it when you move the domain back to your host. Change your DNS back first, so visitors aren't left with an error page. To go live again, publish a build.
Remove a site
At the bottom of Settings, open Remove this site, type the site's name exactly, and click Remove site. Owners and admins only.
First, point your domain away from WranglePress: at your WordPress host, or wherever the site will live now. You can't remove a site while its domain still points here, because visitors would get an error page. When you click Remove site we check live, both the domain's DNS records and whether a request to it still reaches us. If the change hasn't shown up yet, wait a few minutes (at most your record's TTL) and try again. Sites without a domain can be removed any time.
Removing takes the site offline straight away:
- Its preview stops working.
- Builds stop, updates from the connector plugin are ignored, and forms stop sending.
- Your WordPress isn't touched.
- It no longer counts toward your plan's site limit.
Changed your mind?
Removed sites are kept for 30 days. On the Sites page, under Recently removed, click Restore. The site comes back offline, with its builds, settings and domain. Check the preview, then publish a build to put it back on its domain. Restoring needs room under your plan's site limit.
After 30 days the site is deleted for good, with its builds, downloads and form submissions. If you need it gone sooner, email support@wranglepress.com.
