Builds and the preview
Updated
A build is one complete copy of your site: every page, image, style and script, saved as files.
Run a build
Click Build now on the site page. The page refreshes itself while the build runs. Most sites take one to two minutes; big sites take longer. With the connector plugin installed, builds also start by themselves when you publish in WordPress®.
A build:
- Visits every page we can find (from the plugin, your sitemap and links), up to 5,000 pages.
- Saves each page with everything it needs to display.
- Rewrites links so they point at your public domain, and points forms at our form relay.
- Checks the result. If the home page couldn't be copied, the build fails and your live site doesn't change. Smaller problems, like broken links or files that couldn't be downloaded, are listed as warnings on the build's page.
Click a build's ID in the Builds list to see what it found: pages, files, size, and any problems.
Check the preview
When a build finishes, card 2. Preview shows a private link. It always shows the newest good build. Before going live, check:
- The home page and your most important pages look right.
- Menus and links work.
- Images, fonts and icons load.
- Sliders, videos, maps and other widgets work.
- A test message through each contact form arrives (see Forms).
- Your 404 page shows for a made-up address.
The preview link isn't secret enough for private content, but it isn't listed anywhere either. Search engines are told not to index previews.
