Sites that aren't WordPress®
Updated
WranglePress was made for WordPress, but it copies any website that shows every visitor the same pages. Joomla, Drupal, Craft, a site from an old website builder, or one somebody wrote by hand all work the same way. We visit the site like a browser does, follow its links and sitemap, and save every page, image, style and script.
Set it up
- Add the site with its current address, exactly as for WordPress.
- Skip the plugin. The connector plugin is for WordPress only. Without it, we follow your links and your
sitemap.xml, so check that every page you care about is linked from somewhere or listed there. - Run a build and check the preview. Click through the menus and try your forms.
- Go live as usual: connect your domain, then publish.
What's different from WordPress
| WordPress | Other websites | |
|---|---|---|
| Updating the copy | Automatic when you publish (with the plugin) | Click Build now after you change the site, or ask your AI assistant to run build_sites |
| Finding pages | The plugin lists every page | Links and sitemap.xml |
| Forms | Contact Form 7 and WPForms directly, others in most cases | Simple forms that post back to the same site: email mode sends them to you. Test on the preview |
| Keep the original private | Yes, see Keep WordPress private | Yes, the same way: move the original to a private address with Cloudflare Access in front, and update the site address in Settings |
| Retire the original | Yes | Yes: once the copy is live, you can switch the old server off |
What doesn't work
Anything that's different for each visitor:
- shops with checkout;
- logins;
- site search that runs on the server;
- comments.
Also:
- Pages your browser builds with JavaScript after loading, which is common with some website builders. The copy shows only what's in each page as it's sent.
- Page addresses that end in
.php, such as/about.php. We never copy or serve addresses like that, so older PHP sites built that way don't work yet. Addresses like/about/or/about.htmlare fine.
Not sure? Run a build. It doesn't change your live site, and the preview shows exactly what the copy looks like.
