# Connect your domain

Connecting a domain has two parts: **proving you own it** (this changes nothing for visitors), and later **pointing it at WranglePress** (this is going live, covered in [Go live](https://wranglepress.com/docs/go-live)).

## 1. Enter the domain

In card **3. Go live**, type the domain visitors use, for example `www.example.com`, and click **Save domain**. Use exactly the version your site uses today: with or without `www`.

## 2. Prove you own it

We show a DNS record to add:

Add it where your domain's DNS is managed:

- **Cloudflare:** *DNS → Records → Add record*. Choose TXT, paste the name and value.
- **GoDaddy, Namecheap, most registrars:** find *DNS* or *Manage DNS* for the domain, and add a TXT record. Many providers want only the part of the name before your domain, for example `_wranglepress.www` for `www.example.com`.
- **Your host's control panel (cPanel and others):** look for *Zone Editor* or *DNS*.

Then click **Verify**. If it doesn't work straight away, wait a few minutes and try again: DNS changes can take time to spread.

Verifying doesn't change your site. You can leave the TXT record in place.

## What happens after verifying

- The domain becomes the site's public domain.
- We start a new build automatically, made for that domain (page links, canonical tags and sitemaps all name it).
- We prepare a certificate for it, which completes once you point the domain at us.

## Changing the domain later

Save a different domain and verify it the same way. Builds made for the old domain can't be published on the new one, so we build again automatically after verifying.

## "This domain is used by another site"

Each domain can belong to only one WranglePress site. If someone else connected it, adding your TXT record and verifying moves it to your site.

If our certificate setup fails, the page says so. Click **Save domain** again with the same domain to retry.
